Deer Fencing

Deer Fencing

We can provide a high quality deer fence for either keeping deer inside your property or out of it. Depending on which ‘side of the fence’ you fall will determine the specification of the fence you need, as a smaller sized mesh is required to keep deer in and a large mesh is sufficient to exclude them. Our deer fence provides unrivalled strength, a secure boundary and protection from predators.

The expected behaviour of deer when they meet a fence varies by species and determines the specification of the structure required. When fencing for Muntjac the fencing should be turned 150mm at the bottom in the same way as rabbit netting . Fences can be built to individuals specifications made up from different combinations of components. The physical construction required in a deer proof fence should not be underestimated, the typical mesh sizes and heights are given below, taken from notes from the Forestry Commission.

Table 1 – Maximum mesh sizes of fence netting

SpeciesMesh Size (mm)
Fallow220 x 220
Roe200 x 150
Muntjac100 x 100 but 75 x 75preferred for humane reasons•

• The head of an adult muntjac will pass through
a 100mm x 100mm mesh but not the body. When
the head is withdrawn there is a danger of the antlers becoming snagged.

• A general recommendation based on the need to
jump over the fence and the ease to walk around the fence area.

Terrific job last week from Matthew and team fencing in our field and putting up new composting area. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Norfolk Stock Fencing. Really nice to find a company that really takes pride in the job.
